Plumbing Tips for Large Families

At Benicia Plumbing, we know that large families can cause considerable stress on their plumbing and that’s why we’re offering some suggestions on how to alleviate the drama associated with over-used plumbing.

Here are some tips for you to follow to guarantee the proper use of your plumbing system:

  • Don’t Let it Run
When you or your children are brushing teeth at night, make sure that everyone knows not to let the water run. This practice can waste a lot of water and will have a big impact on your monthly water bill. Instead, install water conserving fixtures or, teach kids to turn the water off when brushing their teeth.
  • Showers are Smarter than Baths
Whenever possible, have family members take a shower rather than taking a bath. Taking a shower uses less hot water, so make showers the norm and baths the exception. Consider putting a kitchen timer in the bathroom or, add a timer app to your phone so that you can monitor how long each person is in the shower. Teenagers are well-known for wasting water and taking extended showers, so timing them isn’t a bad idea.
  • Be Kind to Your Garbage Disposal
When dinner dishes are cleaned-up, have a plastic grocery bag nearby to scrape all of the food scraps into. Putting these items down the drain and into the garbage disposal can cause serious problems and will definitely cause a clog. You can simply scrape everything into the bag and then dispose of it in the garbage can.

At Benicia Plumbing, we serve families of all sizes with pride and by keeping their plumbing systems healthy and working properly; they can live their lives and pursue their dreams. And we like that!
