Best Bay Area Summer Staycations

Looking to explore a new part of the Bay Area? Anyone of these regions can provide a full day of family fun – perfect for your next “daycation.”

Here is a brief list of fun summer staycations from Benicia Plumbing, a family-owned business that knows how to have a good time after the work is done.

East Bay-Berkeley: It’s not just a college student haven, Berkeley has tons to offer families looking for a day of exploration. Little explorers will enjoy the Habitat Children’s Museum and scientists of all ages can explore the Lawrence Hall of Science (www.lawrencehallofscience.org). Spend some outside time at Tilden Regional Park where you can meet the farm animals, ride the merry-go-round and stroll around Lake Anza.

Peninsula-Pescadero: On Highway 1 between Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz, you will find the quaint little town of Pescadero, bordered by beautiful beaches to the west and redwoods to the east. Swing by Harley Goat Farm (harleyfarms.com) to sample  goat cheese and meet the animals. Stretch your legs on any of the miles of hiking trails at Butano State Park and be sure to keep your eyes peeled for banana slugs – they love the decaying trees found all over the park.

San Francisco-Golden Gate Park: More than three miles long, Golden Gate Park is full of areas to explore. It offers the de Young Museum, California Academy of Sciences, Japanese Tea Gardens, San Francisco Botanical Garden, lakes, windmills, polo fields, a stadium and even bison!

Marin-Angel Island: Start your day with a ferry ride from Tiburon to this island full of hiking trails and history. Learn how the island played a part in both immigration and Civil War history. Take family photos with San Francisco in the background before you head back across the bay.

South Bay-Big Basin State Park: California’s oldest state park has 80 miles of hiking trails, campgrounds and some of the tallest redwoods you can find. The nearby town of Boulder Creek is a great spot to stop to pick up lunch before you head to the park.
